Dr Kären Marsden graduated from University of Pennsylvania with a BA and completed her DVM at Tufts University in 1998. Soon after graduation from veterinary college, she embarked on her integrative medical career. She was awarded certification in veterinary acupuncture by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS) in 2001; and in Chinese herbal medicine soon after. She went on to co-found, own and manage one of the largest integrative animal hospitals in Canada for over 20 years.
Dr Marsden’s expertise in holistic animal care has resulted in demand for her services a lecturer, including the presentation of webinars for the College of Integrative Veterinary Therapies (CIVT); and the regular delivery of lectures at many major veterinary conferences including the AHVMA and VMX.
Dr Marsden practiced as the medical director of an extremely busy San Diego area veterinary practice from 2020-2024, culminating in her being chosen by residents as the region’s best veterinarian. She currently works with Worldwide Vets in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Egypt and Thailand as well as Vets Beyond Borders in the Cook Islands.
When back in the US she offers integrative house calls in the San Diego area and is a veterinary surgeon for the San Diego Humane Society. She has a passion for helping combat the extreme overpopulation of homeless animals in the shelter system. In 2026, she was awarded a grant to work with C.A.M.P (Community Animal Medical Project), as a high-quality, high-volume veterinary surgeon in the Los Angelas area, committed to providing essential care and advancing the field through education and collaboration.
