Dr Wagner begins this webinar by defining the endocannabinoid system. This system is comprised of receptors, ligands and the enzymes that create and metabolize those ligands. The receptors are grouped into two main classes, however, subclasses also have important properties. She will also discuss the main functions of the endocannabinoind system — creating homeostasis and facilitating communication among the various body systems. It’s importance on the nervous system, immune function, and inflammation will be highlighted. The next aspect of the webinar will cover how the endocannabinoid system can be influenced by outside forces, such as exercise and meditation. Phytocannabinoids are botanical compounds that also influence the endocannabinoid system. Dr Wagner will discuss a variety of phytocannabinoids, and specific indications for their usage. Bench research, as well as studies involving laboratory animals, humans, and dogs will be presented.
