Acupuncture isn’t limited to domestic pet species, it can be effective in many types of animals. It’s challenging and fascinating to consider acupuncture in different species! Join Dr Barbara Royal as she discusses the use of acupuncture as a modality to treat various conditions in zoo and exotic animals. She will provide practical tips on avoiding danger, assessing need, developing goals for treatment, and the tools required. You will learn how to use proportional measurements and bony landmarks in different species to ascertain the location of traditional acupuncture points in animals of vastly different size and shape. This interesting presentation will also cover how acupuncture treatment choices are affected by different species’ behavior, skin/fur/feathers/scales, ancestry, geography, historical climate, social nature, preference for nocturnal, diurnal or crepuscular activity, and prey versus predator nature. Case studies will be presented.
