Anthroposophic veterinary medicine (AVM) is a holistic approach to animal health and well-being based on the concepts of anthroposophy, the spiritual-scientific philosophy developed by Rudolf Steiner (also the basis of Waldorf education and biodynamic agriculture).
AVM can be combined with other holistic therapies such as natural nutrition, acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and environmental care. It can also be adjuvant to conventional therapies including chemotherapy, surgery, antibiotic therapy and others. When caring for pets, the family lifestyle and emotional bond are valued as part of the healing dynamic. For farm animals the environment becomes an important part of the healing process.
Dr Gisela Novaes Lefebvre is one of the world's experts on the topic of anthroposophic veterinary medicine and viscum album in veterinary oncology. In this presentation she will explore Rudolf Steiner’s concepts on the evolution of humans and animals as an introduction to how we can better view animals in a holistic approach. Rudolf Steiner (1861–1925) was a pioneer for his time. He was an Austrian philosopher, spiritualist and social reformer. His ideas have heavily influenced holistic education, human and veterinary medicine, and the arts worldwide.
Dr Novaes Lefebvre will also discuss how AVM considers the physical body, the vitality, the soul and the differences from the human being, and how that can influence our choices for the better care for animals. Anthroposophy is especially related to mistletoe therapy for cancer treatment.
Today, science has proven Steiner’s 100-year-old theories in many ways. Beautiful work!
