'TCVM herbs in the treatment of Equine Gastric Glandular Disease' Webinar Presented by Dr Katja Gorts

Categories:
Equine Chinese Herbs

About the Webinar

Cases of Equine Glandular Gastric Disease (EGGD) complicated by enteritis of the small and/or large intestine and Inflammatory Bowel Disease with an emphasis on small bowel pathologies have increased significantly. In this webinar, Dr Katja Görts will share her ideas about the Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) herbal formulas she successfully uses to treat her EGGD patients.

Since the early use of Chinese herbal medicine thousands of years ago a great variety of TCM herbal formulas have been developed to treat gastrointestinal disorders such as Stomach Heat, Spleen Qi Deficiency, Food Retention and others. Many TCVM practitioners will not want to stock every available TCVM formulation for these disorders, but instead might choose to stock a limited number of commonly used, basic ones. Furthermore, certain herbs in ancient formulas are no longer available or they may need to be replaced or removed either due to issues with toxicity or doping, or because protected species are used in their formulation, or simply due to the belief that ingredients coming from an animal should not be administered to plant eaters like horses. In addition, consideration might be given to herbs of local origin potentially being more effective or tolerable, as the patients´ system is evolutionarily adapted to them already.

Feedback from a webinar participant..... "I recently watched this (wasn’t able to attend at time) and thought it was just fabulous. I see gastric disease in horses a lot and have been approaching it slightly differently and now very keen to use what I have learnt."                                                                                                                                             Dr Tanya Meares, Australia, BVSc (Hons)
