The microbiome is the hot topic in research these days. With the gut being central to health in general and the equine gut having so many critical diseases, the research is eventually going to help us understand how to manipulate the microbiome to improve health. DNA microbe analysis allows excellent information to be gathered. The next step will be to figure out how to make changes in the microbiome that truly affect health for the long term or make metabolic changes. Changes need to be made at the prebiotic as well as the probiotic level. Postbiotics are the metabolites of microbial activity that may be useful to try to supplement. Join Dr Joyce Harman as she presents data on microbe distribution with different diets and conditions and discusses ways to help make positive changes.
